14 pounds baby born in Colorado

A woman in southern Colorado was surprised when she gave birth to a baby girl who tipped the scales at almost 14 pounds. Mia Yasmin Hernandez was born by cesarean section Monday 1/12/14 in Alamosa, weighing 13 pounds, 13 ounces. She was flown to a hospital outside Denver because she had low glucose levels and trouble breathing. Her father says she's doing well and the family hopes to take her home soon. They opened their eyes like they've never seen a baby like that."

Obasanjo tells youths, Fight for Nigeria’s survival.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has told youths to take up the responsibility and effect the needed change in Nigeria instead of blaming the previous generations for the nation’s decay. The former President said this at the 100th-year anniversary of Ijero Baptist Church in Lagos on Sunday. Obasanjo said the generation before him fought for Nigeria’s independence while his generation fought for Nigeria’s unity during the civil war. He said the subsequent generation also fought for democracy. Obasanjo, therefore, said it was time for the next generation to make its own contribution to national development instead of complaining. He said, “Recently, a son of my friend looked at everything around him and got angry and went to meet his dad who is my age mate. He told his father that our generation is a lost one. The father did not pay him any attention so he came to meet me. “He told me what he told his father and justified it by telling me that he went to the university and gradua

Amosun to demolish Kara market for modern city.

gun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday said his administration has concluded plans to develop a modern city, to be known as MITROS City, at Isheri, Ifo Local Government Area, where Kara market is located, through the public-private partnership. He said this in his Oke Mosan office while receiving representatives of the private real estate firm, UBA Construction Consortium, which won the concession for the project. Both parties later signed a concession agreement on the project. Amosun, who said the city would occupy 2,000 hectares of land in and around the popular Kara market, added that the project was part of the administration’s housing and urban renewal programme. He said plans were almost completed on the relocation of the cattle sellers and other traders  in Kara market including other settlers in that axis. He said, “We set up a committee which include traders from the market and we agreed to relocate them. Before we move them, we want to ensure that the pla

boys buried in snow pile heard rescuers calling

NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — Two boys trapped in a snow pile for about seven hours after a plow buried them could hear their worried family's cries but couldn't respond loudly enough to be heard, they said Friday. Police credited an air pocket with saving their lives. The two cousins, 11-year-old Elijah Martinez and 9-year-old Jason Rivera, were building a snow fort Wednesday night across the street from Elijah's apartment in Newburgh when a plow operator clearing a parking lot unknowingly pushed snow over them. Buried in about 5 feet of snow, they could barely move and couldn't breathe very well, so they could do nothing as they heard the anguished cries nearby. Jason lost his gloves. His hat flew off. They relied on each other to stay alive, they said, sharing Elijah's face mask to try and keep their hands warm and talking to each other so they wouldn't fall asleep. "I felt so tired. It didn't feel real that they were coming to get u
