In spite of the fact that most of the Ijebu foods are tuber-related such as Ikokore, Ojojo, Ebiripo etc, the process of cooking these tuber varieties with special sauces makes them nutritionally rich and appropriate for all occasions. Ebiripo is a typical Ijebu cocoyam meal that can be cooked in various ways and spiced up to make a balanced diet. Cocoyam is purely carbohydrates and poor in other nutrients but many have now found ways to make the roots nutritious by adding soya beans while making Ebiripo. According to a study by Sowonola O. A. Et al, from the Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, Oyo State, “The combination of cocoyam and soyabeans in the processing of Ebiripo will bring about nutrient complement ability”. Ifokore, is a Yam Pottage dish made with Water Yam  not White Yam. It is a pottage recipe from the Ijebu people of Ogun state and ijebu from Lagos state , Nigeria. I’m yet to come across an Ijebu person who doesn’t love Ikokore,  Ikokore remains a staple in an ijebu household. To really enjoy Ikokore, you’ll need to incorporate as much proteins as you possibly can to enrich it. Your best bets are Shaki, ( intestine ) Ponmo, Chicken, Goat meat, Gizzard, Smoked Turkey, Smoked Fish, Panla, Eja Kika, the more the merrier. The authentic Ikokore recipe requires no blended pepper, it calls for just Scotch Bonnet (Ata rodo) and in some cases, dry ground pepper but I’m not too keen on hot and spicy dishes so I settle for Shombo. Blaise Diagne International Airport was officially opened on Thursday (December 7) by President Macky Sall. He called it a “source of satisfaction and legitimate pride” for the country. Whiles expected to increase air traffic to the country, the authorities are also hoping it will translate in increased tourism and by that an economic boost. Construction of the airport started in 2007. Therefore it took a decade to complete the project. The cost of the project is put at $600m. It was started by a Saudi firm but later completed by a Turkish firm after a dispute with the Saudis. The Blaise Diagne International Airport is named after the first African to be elected a lawmaker in France, as far back as 1914.

Former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has left the country to Singapore. The 93-year-old is taking his annual holidays. A section of the media also reports that he will have a routine medical checkup whiles away. It is the first time he has left the country since his resignation in November after being leader for 37 years. The entire Mugabe family including wife Grace and children Bona, Robert Junior and Chatunga are all part of the trip. The sons are said to have returned from South Africa to join the Singapore trip. The last public appearance of Mugabe was when the army allowed him to preside over a graduation ceremony in the capital Harare, days after the takeover. His wife has not made a public appearance since.

Google has officially brought YouTube Go - an offline-first app for viewers in developing countries where data connections are costly and slow - out of beta in India. At the same time, the video giant is rolling the app out to several additional countries throughout Southeast Asia and Africa. YouTube Go, which enables viewers to download videos in lower qualities and send copies to friend via Bluetooth, has been modified to more closely match the flagship YouTube app as it leaves beta, per AndroidPolice. The app was first announced for the Indian market back in September 2016, and launched in beta the following February. The Hospital in Delhi has sacked two doctors. A newborn baby that had been declared dead by doctors in India 'woke up' moments before his funeral. Police and government enquiries are under way and two doctors have been sacked following the incident at the  Hospital in north west Delhi. The boy and his twin sister were born prematurely at 7.35am last Thursday, but the girl was stillborn and the boy pronounced dead at 1pm. But an hour later the baby's grandfather  discovered that the body bag the child had been placed in was moving. The boy was then taken to hospital in a critical condition. The baby's family had taken the twins to a burial ground when they noticed one of the children was in fact alive.
