Lion blindsided by crocodile in river escapes

Lions might be the kings of the jungle, but crocodiles rule the river. At least most of the time. That wasn’t the case in a video shared by Kruger Sightings the other day. It shows a young lion crossing a river and getting blindsided by a crocodile. A woman in the background can be heard saying, “Oh my God; oh my God,” just before the inevitable. But it has a happy ending: A happy ending for the lion, that is. The crocodile’s next meal would have to wait. The footage was captured by a tourist while standing on the H10 bridge near the Lower Sabie River in the Kruger National Park in South Africa. “All we can say is, lions should always look both [ways] before crossing the river,” Kruger Sightings said on Facebook

Obasanjo tells youths, Fight for Nigeria’s survival.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has told youths to take up the responsibility and effect the needed change in Nigeria instead of blaming the previous generations for the nation’s decay. The former President said this at the 100th-year anniversary of Ijero Baptist Church in Lagos on Sunday. Obasanjo said the generation before him fought for Nigeria’s independence while his generation fought for Nigeria’s unity during the civil war. He said the subsequent generation also fought for democracy. Obasanjo, therefore, said it was time for the next generation to make its own contribution to national development instead of complaining. He said, “Recently, a son of my friend looked at everything around him and got angry and went to meet his dad who is my age mate. He told his father that our generation is a lost one. The father did not pay him any attention so he came to meet me. “He told me what he told his father and justified it by telling me that he went...

Angelique Kidjo: speaks on state of Africa

And with Africa facing new challenges - from Ebola to extremists opposed to girls' education - she is vocal in her criticism of Western depictions of the continent. "Do you think everybody in Africa has Ebola?" she asks on Talk to Al Jazeera. "We didn't invent Ebola. It's just a disease that exists there. Like, are we going to be blamed for inventing malaria too? If there is an Ebola outbreak in the Western world, will the media in the West treat it the same way?" She also expressed her frustration with the way Western media portray Africa as a continent steeped in violence, victimhood and corruption. "A success story in Africa doesn't interest any media," she says. "They are so eager and hungry for horrible stories from Africa. Why? It looks like the West is the hyena, feeding on the misery of the African people. They should be ashamed doing this." On the topic of terrorism, she is crushing in her criticism ...

China Ice Festival

The event is recognized as the largest of its kind in the world. The Festival officially lasts for one month, but with winter temperatures in the city averaging a bone-chilling minus 17C, many of the sculptures remain in place for considerably longer than that. The sculptures are formed either from compacted snow, or from blocks of ice which are hauled out of the nearby Songhua River. Purified water is also used, - frozen into blocks of clear ice. Many of the sculptures are illuminated to add another dimension to the displays during the long hours of darkness at this time of the year. The Festival began in 1963 but it was only held sporadically, because of the upheaval during the Cultural Revolution. It became a regular event in 1985. In 2001 the Harbin Ice Festival was merged with the Heilongjiang International Ski Festival, to become the event we know today. In 2007, a sculpture celebrating the work of a revered Canadian doctor, Norman Bethune, was recognised ...

Most Nigeria popular Food

Nigeria is a blessed country. We are blessed with diverse rich culture and food. Nigerians both at home and the diaspora always love their food because of how unique and delicious it is. You are free to add to the list because this list is based on my research. Feel free to salivate.... It's allowed. RICE AND STEW This happens to be my second favourite meal funny enough. It is called Sunday food by most people because although people prepare rice and stew on a normal day, it is most commonly prepared on Sundays. The rice is boiled white and served with stew made from tomatoes and other ingredients. I did a research on how different people prepare stew and it turns out that there are different ways of making stew. But 70% of Nigerians prepare is with tomato, onion, vegetable oil/palm oil. It's definitely one of the most popular foods in Nigeria. POUNDED YAM Pounded yam is one of the most popular foods in Nigeria. What Nigerian man hates pounded yam? We don't joke with ...
